vinegar Tom was written in 1976 by a british playwright by the name of Caryl Churchill. It circulates around the themes of gender and power relationships.The play was originally set in the 17th century.It was mainly used as an inspiration after a woman by the name of Elizabeth Clarke was executed for witchcraft in 1645.So the play was written as it wanted to explore the women Rights Acts in 1970. It was premiered for the first time in Humberside Theatre,Hull on the 12th of october 1976. When we first got given the scripts for the play, we analysed the wordings and the way it was written,we thought of ideas and techniques used to be able to explore and inspire people in the modern era and show people the way things were. We were given homework to research when the play was set and the backstory of the upcoming of it.
