Unit 5/6

Like there's no tomorrowike there's no tomorrow was created by Belgrade's young company including Justine Themen , Claire Procter and Liz Mytton. The Belgrade Youth Theatre presented "Like There's No Tomorrow" - one of the first National Theatre Connections plays to be created by young people, originally devised by Belgrade's Young Company in march 2020. The play gives voice to young people's concerns about climate change at a time when the future has never looked more uncertain. A mayor candidate is trying to gain attention from the people in the area to change the way things run and also outlines the benefits of why he should be chosen. However Aisha protests and claims that these changes will eventually affect the whole world and mainly the poor. Like there's no tomorrow is one of the only plays rarely created by a young company to be brought up by the National Theatre Connections. It creates an exciting and memorable experience for the young people. Rehearsal: Our class took part in hot seating activities to help us understand our characters thoroughly, and we also ensured that we went over the script a number of times, to make it a lot easier to be in a state of space together which helps us improve confidence between each other and also help memorise the lines. In some of our lessons we would include improvisation tasks whether it were to make up a scenario from a couple of objects surrounding us or just making up dialogue with one another on the spot. I highly recommend and believe this technique helps us to face difficulty whilst on stage and help each other with cues for example if one of the group members has forgotten their lines. It also helps us deal with stage fright during performances because the location of the performances were in the theatre where these activities would happen. On some mornings our class would gather round each other in a line and in turns we would see who could throw their voice the furthest towards the back of the audience. We also spent a couple minutes of our lesson times stretching our tongues which wold help us with articulation. We would also repeat tongue twisters such as "around the rugged rock the ragged rascal ran" , "Irish wristwatch swiss wristwatch. I myself would go home and practise when I'm on my way to go college or in my free time. I would look in the mirror and run through some of my lines to make sure that I knew how much of the piece I knew and what I had to learn. What is climate change?Climate change is the long term weather pattern in an area , more often averaged over 30 years. It is the mean and variability of meteorological variables over a time span from months to millions of years. It includes global warming which is due to human activities , primarily fossil fuel burning which increases greenhouse gas levels in the Earth's atmosphere. A few of the consequences are a number of wildfires which disrupt animal habitats and also increased heat , which contemplates on the declining water supplies. Rapid environmental change in mountains , coral reefs and the Artic is forcing many species to relocate or become extinct. The World Health Organization calls climate change the greatest threat to global health in the 21st century , even if efforts to sustain a successful aftermath for floods , shortages of food and increasing sea levels as well as making the ocean more acidic to not occur , some effects will still continue for centuries. Average land temperatures have risen by 1.2 degrees Celsius from pre-industrials levels , UK sea levels have risen by 16cm since 1900 and episodes of extreme heat are becoming much more frequent. Its even said that the Scotland glaciers is melting/sinking due to flooding's .and rising sea levelsLook at how the earth that we live on is slowly fading away due to infrastructure and development to help ourselves rather than caring for the animals that also have a life on this earth. Also the Earth’s water has been affected because of the demand for energy to fulfil an expanding global population and economical development. Water resources are also useful to power electricity and the generation of electricity is one of the largest sources of water consumption on Earth.A quote from Professor Benjamin Sovacool , from Aarhus University in Denmark , impliesThere will be no water by 2040 if we keep doing what we're doing today"Extinction Rebellion is a global environmental movement with the aim of using civil disobedience to compel government action. The group was founded in 2018 , and in the present has a total of 408,000 followers on Facebook. The group uses an hourglass inside a circle as its logo to represent time running out for many species , which they believe is between 30,000 and 140,000 being at risk of extinction. The logo was designed by a London street artist called ESP.Hu. The hourglass contains a metaphorical wing and the symbol depicts that "the sands of time will run out for every human life"statistics show an equivalent of 3,672 demonstrators have been arrested over the three recent protests on the 9th , 10th and 11th of April , more have occurredsince and the location of their protests are mainly based in Hyde park which is a Grade I-listed major park in the region of central Londonthat forms a chain from Kensingtonpalace which is a huge;touristattraction due to multiple museumsand classical and pop performances at the Royal GrandHall. This way theycan pick up more followers and stand out to duplicated amount;of people each time , leading to an increase of the clan. Also Hyde park is pretty close to Buckinghampalace ,whichinvites over 50,000 tourists each year. The recent protests that took place in Hyde Park sent out a message to the government to tackle Uk's reliance on oil and other fossil fuels. They have accused the government by using the words "irresponsible and dangerous" about the pursuit of fossil fuels , which is affecting climate change. As we know the Uk currently absorbs 80% of its energy from fossil fuels. In April , the government published the new UK Energy Security Strategy , which included new licensing for North Sea oil and gas.ResourcesThe BBC : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48607989Climate change : Wikepedia :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_changeWater resources :"https://www.theworldcounts.com/challenges/planet-earth/freshwater/when-will-the-world-run-out-of-water/story">https://www.theworldcounts.com/challenges/planet-earth/freshwater/when-will-the-world-run-out-of-water/story
