Unit 9 : The Vampire story
A Vampire Story
Context :
A vampire story was set in 1812 in modern times and written by the playwright Moira Buffini.
she was born in Chesire and her parents were from a Irish background.
Her profession wasn't intentionally to be a playwright because she went to the Royal Welsh College in Cardiff where she was trained as an actor after studying Music and Drama.
You can tell she loved being able to become an actor because she won a Time Out Award for her performance
If you wanted to watch the play nowadays, tickets round a minimum estimate between £50-55.
We were pretty organised once the class went through the script from the start to the end of scene 13 which very much helped i believe and also helped us to remember our lines.
Its obviously much better to practise in person than by yourself.
With yourself is not bad but it takes double the effort.
We also went through the blocking techniques so we would be comfortable with it. We also went through crossing out lines that would help cut down the scenes so it wouldnt be too long.
- The vampires in 1812 had to be very descreet , that is why claire finds stolen identities to cover their tracks.
- When Eleanor shares to the class that she is a vampire everyone is disgusted. Eleanor also states the fact that she survives on blood , Claire is then later on disappointed and scared because now Mint was involved in their personal business.
We also know that the characters , Ruthven , Claire/Clara , Eleanor/Ella are all vampires at some point in the monologue.
Scene 4 , we witness Briggs being asked to be her next pleasure, their is a theme of mystery seeing as Briggs was already going to offer Claire to go back to his and have a sexual intercourse , But when Claire recognises and asks him he is very perplexed and entertainer because his plans have still worked out , not knowing for us viewers that his fate lies in danger.
Scene 5 , Darvell has a conversation with Ruthven about a secret which was a way to gain immortality.
Now we didnt cover scene 6,7 or 8 but in Scene 9 Ruthven comes back for Eleanor, the supposed daughter of Claire. He seeks revenge after he talks about Claire giving him a disease that would mean he passes away very soon. Coming back to Darvell's point in scene 5 is the opposite of immortality, because immortality means you live forever.
We see him sharing the disease as a payback. Eleanor is not to blame for it as Ruthven clearly says "it's a sad disease for an innocent "
Moving on to Mints disappearance.
Mint is a Drama teacher as shown in Scene 2 , he makes a return in a later scene after Eleanor's secret is found out.
Claire really didnt like the sense of where it was going so she could be involved in the disappearance.
We dont cover the rest of the script unfortunately but Mint is my favourite teacher , even above Fillet , the food technology teacher.
