unit 9 : Evaluation
|We studied the play "A Vampire Story". As we didn't have that long to rehearse half of the script was cut. I took part in scene 1 as an extra and in scene 2, I played the character of Moon. In Scene 3 and 4 I filled in as an extra. I took part in scene 5 and 9 as Lord Ruthven.
Myself and Duana were introduced to sort out costumes for the performance. A lot of the clothing was brought by classmates from home due to the coronavirus bubble. For the female roles skirts and leggings were worn to represent the time periods. In scene 2 myself and Duana agreed to make the males (Moon, Briggs, Franklinstein) wear shirts and ties to represent a school uniform. We made sure Moon and Briggs were disengaged from learning and to show this, they didn't have their uniform on smartly. Franklin was opposite and we made it clear by making his uniform very presentable. This is because franklin was separated from the other classmates because he was a new comer and didn't have any interests or similarities with the other students so we dressed him up to make sure he was ready for his debut day in school for the first time seeing as he explained that before he was "home educated since he was a foetus".
On the other hand, Mint was dressed to convey her confident personality so this was left for Keana to bring in her own clothes.
For scene 5 as Lord Ruthven and Darvell , they were handed waistcoats to suggest their superiority. Clara wore a skirt to suggest she was a prostitute because she was described as an "immortal whore" so it would suit the phrase and appearance. For scene 9 Ruthven wore a waistcoat and a tie because he was visiting Eleanor and wanted to appear like a gentleman. In scene 12 and 13 , we found a white coat for Darvell who was dressed as a doctor.
Before the performance we went through some breathing exercises and also a couple of tongue twisters that would help us to be louder during the performance.to be fair i was nervous just as others would be but once we made an appearance on stage I relaxed and played in character and so did everyone else. I believe in the class and that's why I knew we were all gonna bring our hard work into this last performance and show everyone what we are capable of. We also stayed behind to watch the years in front of us at the minute and see how they perform and how we would be by the time we get to their stage.
In terms of my acting during the performance I was concentrating on remembering my lines by running them over and over in my head. I had learnt my lines well and therefore they seemed to come naturally and I didn't miss any cues. Although, I was aware of missing some introductions to scenes. I was thinking about my physicality on stage and where to be. I was thinking about projection and clear pronunciation. There was a small mistake in scene 5 but I managed to improvise and make it seem like it was part of the action on stage.
During the performance were I was loud and I felt relaxed on stage. Scene 9 had previously been difficult and I struggled with it. However, in the performance it went very well. Overall, everybody else improved and had taken on the notes that Shenagh had given us to make our characters more exaggerated. Also, another thing was everyone reacted to each other and engaged in being rebellious teenagers.
It is hard to say what could have gone better as I haven't watched it back yet but there will obviously be improvements for the future.
We carried out the performance on Tuesday 8th June at 2pm.
