Level 3 : Unit 3/4
Verbatim Theatre
Verbatim theatre is a form of documentary theatre which is strictly based on the spoken words of real people.
Context
My class were given different scripts to work on in groups. My group contained 4 other people
(Cairo, Beyza, Jabeen, Jessica).
Research
We were focusing on the attacks on women, especially as the days were becoming darker from 4pm in the afternoon. We started our search on Google where we found that Noel Clarke’s name was involved in the topic. He was accused by 20 different females , of touching , harassing or carrying out sexual misconduct. When I found out from the Guardian.com , I was perplexed and astonished because Noel Clarke was very close to actors and the young society.
He wanted to stop bullying and make casts better by implying a better relationship between the actor and the director of the piece.
I, myself watched him whilst growing up.
"anonymous emails and reports of allegations via intermediaries, but no evidence was provided”.
"We take this matter extremely seriously,” Bafta added. “We encouraged the people who contacted us to report the matter to the appropriate authorities and also engaged an independent victim support expert to provide them with professional advice, and that support remains in place."
“In light of the Guardian’s piece, which for Bafta provided for the first time detailed accounts outlining serious allegations regarding Noel Clarke’s conduct, we have immediately suspended the award and Noel Clarke’s membership of Bafta until further notice.”

Rehearsals
In class we created mind maps to highlight any ideas why these actions take place in the first instance. We weren’t all occupied with Noel Clarke, for example another group portrayed the death of Sarah Everard, a women who was kidnapped and murdered by a police officer.
From the Guardians piece we highlighted the good quotes to include into our performance.
After a couple lessons, each one of us in the group had their own lines assembled and it was just learning them that was the main attention.
We also thought about our Stanislavsky objectives. Who do we want to portray? What is the end product?
Our scene morally belongs in a court house, where there are 3 witnesses, a prosecutor and Noel Clarke himself. The first victim explained how she was treated. " he put his tongue in my mouth”, foul right?
the second victim talked about how she also was affected but in a way to get the fury inside of Noel Clarke, to play with his head for instance.
We came up with a good idea to make the story a reality for the audience. So we included a flashback rather than following the first two victims. The third victim had turned up to an interview, we introduced an element so that the lady in this piece instantly felt creeped out by Noel Clarke Such things like, (Noel Clarke) "would you like some tea... make some tea for this fine women, and make it as sweet as her"
I was given a role of being a prosecutor, addressing the court of the allegations made against Noel Clarke and what was occurring in the meantime.
when we first performed to both Shenagh and Rob, we were given notes on what we needed to improve. For instance, I was told to act formal because i obtain power in the court. Also to slow down with the words and to also work on my articulation so that my voice could hit the back of the audience.
Evaluation
by the time we were prepped ready for performance date, I felt ready like never before. on behalf on myself and my other colleagues.
I taught myself to trap my mind between 4 walls and that its only me and my peers. It really helped me and I believe that I performed to the best of my ability.
